Awesome things to do in Phoenix

I’ve been negligent in posting about enjoyable things to do in Phoenix, Arizona, where I’ve lived for over ten years. I’d like to change that today because it’s a fantastic area to live and visit.  While winter is one of the busiest seasons for travelers, there is entertainment to be had all year. There are also some fantastic hotel and resort deals available during the off-season. This page will cover activities in and around Phoenix. So, without further ado, here is a list of the top things to do in Phoenix from the perspective of a local.

  1. Musical Instrument Museum

This one-of-a-kind museum is my favorite in the valley and one of my top five favorites in the world. And that’s saying a lot! It is the world’s only global musical instrument museum, and it is exquisitely and lovingly curated. In such a fascinating way, the museum brings instruments from all around the world to life. When you buy a ticket, you get a headset. It’s both a cultural experience and a music education in one, and it’s great fun for the whole family.

  1. Taliesen West

From 1937 to 1959, Taliesin West was the holiday home of legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It is open for visits and serves as the main site for the Taliesin School of Architecture and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The house is in the McDowell Mountains’ foothills. The natural environment inspired the design of the house. The walls were built with local stones, and many of the angles and flows of the rooms were the surroundings. When Wright returned, he renovated the house, working with his pupils to carry out his vision. The house is an original work of art.

  1. Dobbins Lookout South Mountain

This picturesque viewpoint provides the best views of the Phoenix area. With an elevation of over 2,000 feet, it is the highest point accessible by car. It is in South Mountain Park and Preserve, one of the country’s largest municipal parks. On any given day, you will find people hiking and biking on the park’s more than 51 miles of trails. You can even conquer a camel (not, but it’s one of the most difficult walks in the valley).

  1. Desert Botanical Garden

When you think of the desert, you think of sand and various shades of brown. The Desert Botanical Garden strives to dispel the idea that the desert has little or no greenery. It’s a 140-acre botanical garden with around 50,000 plants. You can stroll through the serene walks of the garden, join fun events, dine at their restaurants, and learn about desert life.

  1. Local Wine & Adult Beverages

You may or may not be aware that Arizona has two major (and award-winning) wine areas less than three hours from Phoenix. The good news is that several of those vineyards have tasting rooms in Phoenix, Scottsdale, to be more specific. The best part? The vineyards in Scottsdale are all accessible on foot, Recovery Coach making it possible to explore many spots in one day! They are all located in the charming Old Town Scottsdale neighborhood. If you plan on visiting wineries in the Phoenix region, make sure to drink lots of water and eat before, during, and after your excursions to stay classy! Most tasting venues serve modest dishes of food, but some offer whole menus to keep your stomach full.

  1. Tempe Beach Park

Tempe is a college town near Phoenix that is home to Arizona State University (ASU), and it has a lot of fun things to do. Mill Avenue has many fascinating boutique shops and fantastic eateries. Many outstanding ethnic restaurants, including Greek, Irish, Lebanese, Ethiopian, and others, can be found on Mill and nearby. Jogging, kayaking, sailing, fishing, rowing, and picnics are all popular activities at Tempe Town Lake. Tempe Beach Park also hosts many entertaining festivals and events throughout the year.
