Easah Suliman

Last week, former England youth captain Suliman led Pakistan to their maiden World Cup qualifying victory over Cambodia as they prevailed 2-1 on away goals after an even contest between both legs. Former QPR youngster Harun Hamid immortalised himself by scoring from the penalty spot – marking Suliman’s return home and making history!

Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town defender Naveed Omar has been an essential member of Pakistan since making his debut against Mauritius in 2021. Additionally, this 25-year-old represented young Three Lions squad during 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship victory.

Suliman brings much to the national setup, having captained youth teams of all age levels of football. But his main priority lies with providing young people who come through his system with everything they need for successful progress to the highest level; hence why he is working with UD Vilafranquense on season-long loans.

Arjan Raikhy

Arjan Raikhy, an Aston Villa youth academy graduate who joined Leicester City this season after spending three seasons at Aston Villa’s youth academy, continues to impress at Leicester. On Tuesday against Wigan Athletic in their Papa John’s Trophy clash he set up Ben Chrisene’s goal en route to a 2-2 draw for Leicester.

Through separate loan spells, he also assisted National League club Stockport County and then National League Two side Grimsby Town with their campaigns back into the Football League.

Kira Rai was again at the heart of Derby County Women’s Championship side’s success as they beat Liverpool Feds 6-0 in Continental Tyres League Cup action. Our first ever timeline and showcase documenting British & Irish South Asians’ journey in modern women’s football included Kira, who was later presented with Sky Sports Diversity In Media award. Additionally, PFA also released year-two data regarding progress made by South Asian players within Premier League Academy system.

Kira Rai

Kira Rai has much to be proud of after making her Derby County debut and scoring against Northampton at the weekend. Although Kira was part of England Women’s Under-10 set-up, no homegrown players with South Asian heritage have made it onto their senior side since 1986.

Rai had an eventful week, joining Sky Sports News at Arsenal’s Hale End academy training ground to address diversity in women’s football before receiving her award from Asian Media Awards. Rai remains determined to change this reality.

Anish Shroff, born to South Asian parents in West Ham United youth team football, acknowledges his South Asian background is what propelled him into being the sole minority radio play-by-play announcer working in the NFL. But more needs to be done in supporting aspiring minority broadcasters wanting to follow in his footsteps; The Hammers are taking positive steps in that regard.
