Top 10 most visited countries in the world in 2024

The statistics on international travel for 2024 surprised many.

While some countries are still struggling to bring back tourists after the pandemic slump, Turkey, popular with Russians, has firmly established itself among the world’s top four leaders, and it has every chance of overtaking its competitor in the near future and moving up one place.

Turkey became the fourth most visited country on the planet, welcoming 60.58 million people.

Almost no one expected such a result, especially given the competition in the Mediterranean region. Turkey surpassed Germany, Japan, Greece, and Thailand. And this is against the backdrop of the fact that just a few years ago, the industry was only beginning to recover from the pandemic.

At the same time, the growth of Turkish tourism on the world stage is explained by stable tourism infrastructure, reasonable prices, well-known resorts, rich cultural heritage, and, of course, a warm attitude towards tourists.

Top 10 most visited countries in the world in 2024:

France — 102 million tourists

Spain — 93.76 million

USA — 72.39 million

Turkey — 60.58 million

Mexico — 45.04 million

Germany — 37.5 million

Japan — 36.8 million

Greece — 35.95 million

Thailand — 35.55 million

Austria — 32.2 million

According to the report, the global tourism market has not only recovered from the pandemic but is also showing rapid growth.

However, there have been significant changes among the traditional leaders in the industry. Turkey was the main surprise, challenging the “eternal” favorites thanks to a competent strategy focused on mass tourism, although it should be noted that there has been some decline in tourist numbers in this area due to high prices.

At the same time, the United States, which has long held the position of one of the most attractive destinations, is rapidly losing the trust of travelers. In particular, this is due to President Donald Trump’s “anti-tourism policy.”

His antics, careless statements, and actions are undermining the country’s image and alienating millions of potential tourists from around the world. As a result, travelers are refusing to go there en masse.
According to experts’ forecasts based on bookings, there will be far fewer tourists wishing to travel to the United States this year.
